Lighting Design

Lighting Design is the art of creating a dynamic environment for an event through the use of projected colour and texture. Contemporary lighting can act as both form and content - delivering a message whilst at the same time shaping an aesthetic. Light is flexible and inclusive, facilitating an intimate connection between audience and performer.

Lighting for corporate spaces

Whether for a function, tradeshow, celebration or installation - good lighting amplifies ideas. A logo that has previously lead a static life on letterheads can become an immersive aesthetic, given life over the course of an event. A stern brand can reveal its fun side in order to become a playful motif. Or conversely a boisterous brand is cast in a reliable, hard-working light for the benefit of equally hard-working stakeholders. Light can also shape the audience's attention, making heads turn to notice the prestigious and expensive setting, whilst later on (after drinks have been served) encouraging eyes to focus on the speaker and the presentation.

A good lighting designer is an investment in the ideas that you need to communicate to your audience. They must be an excellent communicator and a team player. A good designer will put themselves in control of what is seen and how it is seen in order to ensure the highest standard of presentation.

I'm a very good lighting designer. Contact me.

Lighting for performances

'Light is to production what music is to the score; the expressive element in opposition to literal signs; and, like music, light can express only what belongs to "The inner essence of all vision" .... Both elements have an extraordinary flexibility which permits them to run through all modes of expression consecutively, from a simple statement of existence to the most intense overflow of emotion' - Adolphe Appia

Any performance, from concert to drama, can be given a beautiful shape by the right light. A lighting cue can draw out meaning, underscore an idea or accentuate a rhythm. Light can be both a reactive and instigative force in a performance, helping to add depth and dimension, excitement and sparkle, epic crescendos or serene plateaus.

A good lighting designer is more than just a technician, but a true collaborator, helping artists to make art.
